I wanted to thank you and your company on behalf of myself, my company and all of the students who journeyed to Cardiff and back. we all had an excellent time and we appreciate the troubles that you have gone to to make this happen for us. Dear Colin,
A slightly belated ‘thank you’ for arranging for the coach for the HMS Cambrian Association’s Reunion tour of Bristol on Saturday, 15th May. Everything went splendidly, and according to plan, on the day, and the only hiccup appears to have been on the afternoon of the day before, when I did not receive my expected text with the driver’s mobile telephone number (but did find an email waiting on my computer when I returned home late on Sunday afternoon giving that information!); but I had faith in you and your organisation and sure enough the coach arrived at the hotel in Newport just after 0900 on the Saturday morning, giving me time to have a chat with the very obliging driver.
As I say, everything went splendidly on the day and Mike Hosey, the driver, could not have been more helpful – although I believe he was relieved somewhat when our scheduled call at the shopping centre area resulted in us picking up two more passengers; those being my elderly assistant, a native of Bristol, who had assisted me in the very early days of planning the reunion, and his wife. Almost up until the last moment they didn’t think they would be fit enough to be able to join us – but they did. I therefore resorted to the old navy custom of ‘press-ganging’ and introduced my elderly friend to the microphone and told him to get on with it – thus relieving Mike from having to stretch his self-confessed sketchy knowledge of the city of Bristol (although he knows more about the area then I think he realises). So with Mike skilfully navigating around the streets and the old fella keeping up a running commentary and him liasing with Mike when necessary, I was able to sit back and (literally) enjoy the ride.
The weather was also very pleasant and the coach very clean and comfortable.
The feedback I have had from my members is that they thoroughly enjoyed the day out and stated that it was possibly the most informative and interesting coach trip they have had in the ten years of our annual reunions. And whilst I can take a bow and the credit as far as they are concerned, you and I know that a large part of the praise is due to you and your organisation and the seamless way that you dealt with the issue.
Thank you again; I shall retain your details for the next time we are seeking a coach company for a similar day trip (which, regretfully from your point of view, is unlikely to be for the reunion next year as plans are already afoot for us to go afloat and spend the day onboard a preserved, historic sister ship – but there will be other reunions after that).
